Why Scale WHY?!

So today was my weigh-in day...and clearly it did not go well. I am having zero success with Weight Watchers Points Plus program. Either there is something wrong with me, or something wrong with the program. I first started it in January and after three weeks of dedication I had NO RESULTS, and I know weight loss takes time but I should have seen something, so I got bummed out and for a few weeks just ate wisely but did not track points. Then I decided to give it another go, I have been tracking points for three weeks again, I am in week two of a running program and ZILCH, NADA, NOTHING, the scale has not budged! Saturday Morning I stepped on the scale for just a mid-week check and I was down two pounds! I was so excited. I also worked out on Saturday and earned 5 activity points, on that evening I ate those points but otherwise did not go over my daily limit + activity points. Sunday, after working hard painting all day and only eating brief healthy snacks I wanted Chipotle dinner, I ended up using SOME but not all of my weekly extra points, I thought that's what they were there for. Yesterday I was exactly within my points not going over and not eating my activity points. Today I am up 4 POUNDS from Saturday morning...how on earth could a person gain 4 pounds in four days?! I know I did not eat an extra 3,500 calories every single day, I know I didn't. Is there something else going on? Do you build muscle from running? Could it be water weight from being a female?  I'm just not understanding why I have no success. I guess I can try a week or two without using any extra weekly points and not using my activity points and see if that works, but besides that I don't know what else to really do. I'm eating good foods and paying close attention to what I'm doing, working out 3-4 times a week burning 400-500 calories and drinking water like cray...I'm getting downtrodden again about this whole thing....

And also I'm on a 12 hour fast because I have a wellness screening at work so I'm probably a little extra crabby since I haven't had my morning coffee and I'm not allowed to have breakfast until I'm done with the screening. Anyone else having trouble with WW PP? Anyone having great success and want to tell me what you're doing? Should I eat less points? More? Should I quit and try something else?

In other news, I ran yesterday- day 2 of week 2 of my C25K, part of the Spring Training 5K Challenge with KTJ and Latte and a Prayer

And I ate some food- p.s. Vanilla Chobani is not good in my opinion, it is sour like sour cream and not vanilla-y at all.

But this salad with Newman's Own Greek Vinaigrette was a super tasty lunch!

Hopefully you had a good Monday and aren't feeling hunger pains and caffeine headaches because of a dumb work health screening. Clearly I have a little coffee addiction but I'm not ashamed, I love me my morning coffee, it's the only non-water beverage I really drink and it is so good.

Hopefully tomorrow I will be feeling more positive.

  1. That Greek Vinaigrette dressing sounds really tasty. Plus, I love Newman's Own and their huge donations to charity. What an awesome company!

  2. Oh, Robyn, how FRUSTRATING!!! I've heard from SOO many people that the WW PP system does not work for them - maybe it doesn't work for you?? That makes no sense!! Honestly, I didn't like the PP system either, it actually was bizarre to me that they would change it when the old system worked so well, but I chalk it up to Weight Watcher's Marketing :( Sometimes we can gain that much from salty stuff (BTW, LOVE Chipotle, my fave!), but going all those weeks with only a loss of 2lbs, doesn't make sense when you're following it as you are. Sending tons of positive energy your way!

    1. Hey Jenn, I never really thought about the salt in the food I was eating and how that might play a role, I did eat some non-home cooked meals that probably had a lot more salt than what I normally eat. Not that I'm looking for excuses but definitely something to think about. Thank you for your support!!! :)

  3. Girl, I think you should continue doing what you are doing! I have had the SAME EXACT RESULTS TOO! For the past three weeks I have lost or gained... EW. I also have felt really un-confident... is that a word? anyway... I think how you feel is more important that how you weigh... I would also talk to your leader at the meetings - and hop on a forum on WW online.

    1. un-confident can totally be a word! and I am feeling that for sure, like I know I *can* do it, it's just a matter of how, and how long. Good idea to look at the WW forums, I don't go to the meetings but I forget all the resources in the online community sometimes. Thanks for being so positive for me :)

  4. Hey lady I am visiting from the link-up! As far as points go, I know for me personally I try to stay away from the bonus points and activity points. I have minimal to no success even if I only use a few of them! I know its super frustrating because I feel like I am stil pretty big, so I should be able to use those, but not so much! Great job on the running, and yes you are probably building muscle! Also as far as gaining four pounds, I have also noitced that when I eat out, I always retain a lot of fluid even if I ate within my points! Those four pounds will probably be gone in a couple of days!! Anyways, I hope this helps and great job on the running!!

    1. I think you are right about the bonus/activity points, at least it's worth trying something different and NOT use them for a while to see if that makes a difference. Thanks for your positive comments :) it really does make me feel better

  5. Stopping by from link up today. I had that same problem with WW years ago and won't try it again. I use MyFitnessPal.com to track my calories. My dr thought that maybe my body was in starvation mode, so I have to eat all my calories every day. I have managed to lose 7 pounds over the last 3 weeks....finally. My scale never budged before. Maybe that's something to try?? In reading Ashlee's post, I think with my calorie counting I do better when I don't eat my additional activity calories, too. Good luck!

    1. I've heard a lot about myfitnesspal.com lately, I think I will try for a week to count calories and points and see where I'm generally falling because I honestly have no clue how many calories I eat in a day. Great work on those 7 pounds! I bet that feels so good to make progress like that. Thanks for stopping in and supporting me:)

  6. I agree with Ashlee's comment as I tend to do the same thing. I try not to go into my 49 points or use my activity points, but that may change when I'm at the minimum number of points a day as I lose weight. Thanks for linking up and sharing! We all have bad times, but we can do this!

    1. Hey Katie-
Thanks for stopping by!! :) You are very right I am going to see how not using any of those 49 points will work for me for a while and just stick to my budget and see if it helps. Thanks for the support
      :)

  7. Hi Robyn! New reader here, and I love your blog! I've been on WW for about 4 months, and it's the FIRST successful diet I've ever done (and that's from about 10 years of on-and-off dieting). My suggestion is to not tap into your activity points! My mom is also on WW, and she says it's like a game. I think it's okay to dip in (a little, if you're struggling) to your weeklies, but don't touch those activity points! I leave them untouched in case my PP estimations are a little low.

If you're really having an issue, you can lower your daily PP allowance too, what is yours at now?

    1. Hi Carolyn! I'm glad to hear you've had success so far- that's great! I think you are right about activity points, I workout to burn calories and build muscle, not so I can just turn around and eat more food. I worry about eating too many or even too little points, I know either can mess things up. I am at 34 points right now.

  8. Love your blog!! Here's my tip...I have never done weight watchers but have had success with Beachbody programs, Shakeology, and mostly "clean" eating! What I tell my challengers is to kick the scale out and don't be a "slave" to it!! It can vary SO much hour to hour based on sodium intake, hormones, water consumption, dehydration, etc!! Take your measurements and focus on losing inches, rather than pounds. Maybe only weigh yourself once a month! Or every two weeks! Focus more on how your clothes fit, and how you feel in general! I think you are doing great and I love following your journey :)

    1. Thanks for stopping by! I don't know a whole lot about the Beachbody or Shakeology programs but I'm definitely interested, but I did delve into clean eating for a while, but I didn't really notice a difference. You are totally right about the scale, stepping on every morning just messes with my head. Thanks for the advice!! :)

  9. Hi there! I stumbled upon your blog...somehow. I just keep clicking and clicking from pinterest and blogs and sometimes I forget how I get to certain blogs, but I love that I found yours! I know this post is a few weeks old, but I'm wondering if you've had more success with WW PP since then. I also felt like the PP system wasn't working great for me. I did allow myself to use the extra allowance points, but even after working out it seemed like I either weighed the same, or more! I was pretty successful with weight watchers years ago, but now I'm having zero success with PP and am feeling pretty downtrodden myself, so now I've been doing the plan half heartedly. So, have you had success yet? I'm wondering whether I should keep trying with this, or try tracking calories like the old weight watchers system and like some of your other followers suggested. Insight would be great! Thanks! :)

    1. Hi Gia, glad you found me :) I often stumble across so many cool blogs from Pinterest I have trouble keeping track too. As to your WW PP question, no I have not really seen much progress in the scale department...I am still at it though even though I've only lost 4lbs since january, I'm trying hard to incorporate more cardio and weight training into my routine and have stopped eating my activity points. I think I will keep giving it a try because I have at least stopped gaining weight and I feel better. I'm not sure how long I will try the new WW but I haven't given up yet. I'm sorry to hear you are struggling with the system too! It does get hard to stray on track when you aren't seeing results. Have you tried not eating any flex points or activity points? Otherwise I know a lot of people enjoy myfitnesspal and have seen success with that! Let me know how it goes for you, I'd love to stay in touch and share updates.
